Custom Sewing Policies & Process
last updated 08/14/2026
Thank you for choosing Rachel Moon Sews for your custom garment project. Custom sewing is a collaborative process that takes time, care, and thoughtful decision-making. These policies are designed to help create a smooth experience by setting clear expectations around timelines, materials, communication, and the custom design process.
Custom Sewing Timelines
Every custom project is unique and requires time for planning, sourcing materials, construction, fittings, adjustments, and finishing.
Project timelines are estimated based on:
-
The complexity of the garment
-
The amount of design development needed
-
Material availability
-
The current studio schedule
-
The number of fittings and adjustments required
Because custom garments are created individually and require dedicated studio time, Rachel Moon Sews does not offer expedited or rush custom orders.
Projects are scheduled according to studio availability, and completion dates must be agreed upon before work begins.
If a client requests a significantly earlier completion date after a project has already started, Rachel Moon Sews may determine that the adjusted timeline is not feasible.
In this situation, the client remains responsible for payment for:
-
Completed labor
-
Materials purchased for the project
-
Any additional expenses already incurred
Materials, Fabric & Notions
Custom projects often require unique fabrics, buttons, closures, trims, embellishments, or other specialty materials.
The quoted project price covers labor only unless otherwise specified. Fabric, notions, and other materials are billed separately.
If Rachel Moon Sews purchases materials on your behalf:
-
You will be invoiced separately for the cost of materials.
-
A $20 sourcing fee will be charged for each shopping occasion dedicated to finding fabric, notions, buttons, trims, or other project materials.
A shopping occasion includes in-person shopping, appointments, online sourcing, or dedicated time spent searching for materials.
Choosing Buttons, Trims & Decorative Elements
Decorative details are an important part of a custom garment, and Rachel Moon Sews will make thoughtful selections based on your design preferences and project needs.
If you request alternatives for buttons, trims, embellishments, or other decorative elements, Rachel Moon Sews will make up to two additional sourcing attempts.
If, after two attempts, the available options do not meet your preferences, you may purchase your preferred materials independently.
Client-selected materials must be provided in a timely manner and must be appropriate for the project. Delays caused by client-provided materials may affect the completion timeline.
Design Changes & Additional Requests
Custom garments develop through collaboration. Reasonable adjustments and conversations are expected throughout the process.
Changes that significantly alter the original project scope may require:
-
Additional labor charges
-
Additional material costs
-
Timeline adjustments
Examples include:
-
Changing the design after construction has begun
-
Adding new features or details
-
Changing materials after purchases have been made
-
Requesting additional fittings or revisions beyond what was originally planned
Fit, Wearability & Handmade Variation
Custom garments are made to fit a person, not a factory standard. Rachel Moon Sews strives to create garments that are comfortable, functional, flattering, and aligned with your vision.
Because handmade garments are created through an individualized process:
-
Minor variations are a natural part of handmade work.
-
Perfect symmetry or identical replication of factory-produced garments cannot always be guaranteed.
-
Fit can be influenced by posture, movement, undergarments, footwear, and personal comfort preferences.
-
Some design choices may require balancing appearance, comfort, structure, durability, and wearability.
The goal of every custom project is to create a beautiful, functional garment that feels right for the person wearing it.
Communication & Approvals
Custom projects require timely communication between Rachel Moon Sews and the client.
Clients are expected to respond within 5 business days to requests regarding:
-
Design decisions
-
Material approvals
-
Fittings
-
Measurements
-
Project questions
-
Other time-sensitive information
If communication is delayed, the project may need to be paused and rescheduled based on studio availability.
